It was Homecoming 2009 and the Freshman Experience Residence Halls had geared up for some fierce competition in several different Homecoming events. Residents and staff members alike rallied and participated in the 1st Annual Homecoming Carnival, Powder-puff Football, the Clown Relay, Chalking on Skiles Walkway, Spirit Displays, the infamous Mini 500, Squirt One Squirt All, and many more activities during this year's homecoming festivities. "I have enjoyed seeing the excitement and energy come out of the students during Homecoming week. They really got involved in all there was to offer," stated Taryrn Njagu, Hall Director for Matheson, Perry and Hanson Halls.

Among all of the homecoming activities that took place during this year's festivities there was one that was most anticipated by all freshman on campus, the traditional Freshman Cake Race. "You only get one chance during your time here at Georgia Tech to do this," says Scott Rowland, a resident of Hanson Hall. This sentiment was shared throughout the FE as residents arrived at the starting line by the 6:00am Saturday deadline.

After an entire week of fun, there were many highs and lows in the face of stiff competition. Ultimately the Howell, Harrison, Cloudman Halls team were announced the winner's for the Residence Halls Division at half-time during the homecoming game between Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech.

All in all, Homecoming 2009 was a fun-filled week of friendly competition and camaraderie among the Freshman Experience halls. And though exhausting, the week can best be summed up by the Hall Director of Glenn Hall, Christopher Ruiz, "First-year students enjoy all of this so much; they really embrace it! I love my job!"
