We’ve heard you and have searched for a solution! After much research we found that StarRez was the only vendor that had all the components that met all of your demands. Many of your peer institutions use StarRez such as: Cornell, University of Illinois Urban Champaign, Harvard Business School, Dartmouth, University of California at Berkeley, and Stanford University just to name of few.
We are very excited about the new online housing system, and feel that the new technology it offers will make the application process simpler and more efficient with an increased range of services. This system enables you to complete your entire application process online. Room self selection and roommate matching are the most striking features of the new program.
Roommate matching enables students to communicate with various potential roommates directly. You can now:
remain anonymous and request students you have never met.
share your Myspace or Facebook links in your profile so fellow students know who you are and what you’re all about.
view possible matches only using certain answers to particular question(s). You may prefer someone who is a complete opposite of yourself or very similar.
choose a specific friend.
manage your roommate request(s).
Room Self Assign - for the first time, you will make the assignments! When your time ticket opens up, you will be able to search and select your room. This year, the student with the best selection number will use his or her time ticket to self assign and pull in roommate(s).
We hope you enjoy your options and all the positive changes new for you this year.
Fall 2012 tentative housing rates can be viewed at www.housing.gatech.edu
Application Process
Online Room Selection is a two part process:
(1)Filling out the Housing Application by Thursday, March 1 and(2)Selecting a Room.
Students who apply by the March 1 deadline will be given a room selection number. The room selection number will be sorted by and within class status according to the number of credit hours earned at Georgia Tech at the end of the fall 2011 semester—the lower the room selection number, the better.
important
Some students may not be able to Stay in their same room due to ThinkBig Programs and for administrative reasons.

After logging in you will land on the student’s home page. Please view your name, classification, and email address on the left hand side of the page for accuracy. Then, choose Application at the top left hand side of the page to get started.
First you will select the term you are applying for.
To apply for the upcoming Fall/Spring choose:

housing does not offer a fall only contract
2012-2013 ‘AY Athlete, Staff, Non Student (8/18/2012 – 5/3/2013)
Now that you have selected the housing term you are applying for, the application process consists of several steps.
Term:
HOW TO APPLY FOR HOUSING
Step 1 Select Welcome
This will begin your application.
Step 2 Payment Page
You will need to either make a $600 prepayment or accept a delay of prepayment.
If your expected family contribution is $18,000 or less according to your financial aid records or if you’re a President’s Scholar, Tech Promise or staff member, your delay of prepayment is automatically assessed when you apply online. If you are unable to make the $600 prepayment by March 1 please call the Central Housing Office or email information@housing.gatech.edu use the subject delay of prepayment and include your gtID#.
To complete the payment page you will be asked to accept the application cancellation penalty schedule. Penalties will be assessed to your student account if you cancel your application/contract.
Step 3 Accept Contract
Carefully read and accept the contract electronically. An application isconsidered complete after you accept the contract since penalties will be assessed.
Step 4 Contact Phone Number
Please list your best contact phone number or cell phone number so we can contact you quickly in case we have questions about your application/room assignment.
Step 5 Building Preferences
You can list 6 housing preferences in order of interest. You may wish to review the building descriptions in advance at http://www.housing.gatech.edu/reshalls/index.cfm. You can update your preferences up until the time assignments are made.
Step 5a Building Preference Comments
You can add any comments about your housing application.
Step 6 Think Big Communities
If you want to be a roommate of a ThinkBig participant or be part of a ThinkBig program you will fill out this section. You can indicate up to 3 ThinkBig programs. Please read the ThinkBig instructions for more details (see page 10).
Step 7 Profile Questions
Create your profile by answering a series of questions regarding your personal living preferences so that you may participate in the roommate matching process.
Step 8 Profile Screen Name
Your screen name is used as your profile name for the purpose of roommate searching. It will be viewed by other students and allows you to be anonymous. If you prefer not to be anonymous, you can use your actual name. Maximum of 20 characters for your screen name is allowed. If you would like other potential roommates to view your Facebook or Myspace you can enter the links.
Step 9 Roommate Preferences
Search by Details:
If you already have a roommate in mind, you can find them using details like gtID#, GT Account, Last Name, First Name, or Screen Name. If you see “no matching roommate(s) have been found” it is possible that the student you have requested has not yet applied for housing.
Search by profile questions or Search by browse matching:
If you do not have a specific person in mind, you can compare profiles and identify new potential roommates based on how they match your profile; the system can give you a listing of potential roommates to choose from. You can contact potential roommates by email using your screen name on this step.Your roommate request(s) can be updated up until the time assignments are made.
When you are accepted as a requested roommate, or your request for a roommate has been accepted/rejected, the system will send you an email inviting you to return to the portal to review and update your roommate selection(s). To be eligible to be assigned together, you must have either:
requested someone who accepted your request or
accepted when someone requested you
Step 10 Roommate Over Building Choice
You will choose whether you prefer your roommate(s) over your preferred location or your preferred location over your roommate(s). Housing will use this information if you fail to self assign.
Step 11 View Confirmation
You have finished all the steps of your application. You can log in and make changes to your application until an assignment is made.
The remaining steps of room selection will be locked until March 5.
Step 12 Room Selection Number
On March 5 your room selection number and room selection timeslot will be viewable.
Step 13 Renew Same Room
On March 5 – you can assign yourself to your same room for Fall 2012-13
(note: If you want to change rooms within the same suite use Step 14 on next page.)
Once you have an assignment you can delete that room assignment and participate in Step 14 or 15 while that step is open.
Step 14 Renew Same Building New Room
On March 6 and 7 – you can assign yourself to a new room in your current building for Fall 2012-13 (note: North Ave. East cannot choose North Ave. West, South or North; Eighth Street East cannot choose Eighth Street West or South etc.)
Once you have an assignment you can delete that room assignment and participate in Step 15 according to your timeslot until self assign is closed
Step 15 Room Search & Assign
March 8 through March 16 you will be able to search and select your room. The student with the earliest online room selection timeslot will use his or her timeslot to self assign and pull-in “accepted” roommate(s). Ideally we suggest all accepted roommate(s) gather at one computer to choose the room(s) together.
To be pulled in, all potential roommates must have signed-up for housing by March 1. We recommend requesting and accepting all potential roommates before the online room selection begins on March 8.
Once you have an assignment you can delete that room assignment and reassign to another room up until self assign is closed.
Cancel My Housing
If you cancel your application by March 1 you will not be charged penalties. This cancels your application/assignment. If you decide you want housing later, you must reapply.

Participants will live together in apartment style housing and can select one non-ThinkBig roommate of your choice. Please note that International House and Women, Science, & Technology do not allow non-community participants as roommates. ThinkBig is a two semester commitment and has a $150 per semester fee.
All ThinkBig participants and non-ThinkBig roommate(s) must apply for housing by the March 1st deadline and must fill out the ThinkBig step on the application. Applying for ThinkBig will take priority over all other preferences. The Department of Housing will assign you to the room based on the program you were accepted into.

I-House (http://ihouse.gatech.edu/wordpress/)
WST (http://www.wst.gatech.edu/lc.html)
The deadline for this application is February 10th. You will also need to complete the following directions.
How to Apply to be in ThinkBig:
When you get to the ThinkBig Communities Step the first question will be “Do you want to participate in a ThinkBig Program?” Answer yes and fill out your program choice(s) to be considered for ThinkBig. If you are interested in one program, only request that program and leave the other two program choices blank, etc. If you have several students who want to be roommates in the same ThinkBig community, you must make sure you ask for the same programs in the same order.
LIVING-LEARNING COMMUNITIES AT TECH
How to Apply to be a roommate of someone in ThinkBig, but not participate in ThinkBig:
If you want to be a non-ThinkBig roommate, answer “No, you do not want to participate in ThinkBig” and then answer yes to the question, “Do you want to be a non-ThinkBig roommate”.
ThinkBig Roommate Instructions
Roommate Preferences (Step 9) is where you will find your roommates.
If you see “no matching roommate(s) have been found” one of two reasons are possible. One, the student(s) you are requesting has not applied for housing yet. Two, the student(s) you have requested did not apply for ThinkBig or apply as a non-ThinkBig roommate. All roommates must have accepted each other and must have answered yes to one of the above questions on the ThinkBig Community step in order to be roommates.
