Residence Life Spotlight - Towers Hall

"The 15 men who make up the staff of Towers Hall are an amazing group of guys, my best staff so far," states third-year Hall Director, Shane Caldwell. The staff consists of seven rookies, seven others with two years of experience, one man in his third year as a Peer Leader. The PLs are from all over the world and all around the country. Sterling Gerdes, a second-year PL, boasts, "I've been to all the states besides Alaska and the one's north of New York." Five of the fifteen Peer Leaders were born outside of the U.S. First-year PL Gabriel Morocoima is about to receive his U.S. citizenship. Overall, this is a truly a diverse group of guys who can work with the diverse residents of Towers Hall.

"I love being a Peer Leader. I'm able to make a positive impact on my peers and help them adjust to Tech," comments first-year peer leader Josh Mackanic. This is an example of the attitude of the entire Towers team. The positive attitude and desire to create a genuine community where residents thrive is evident in Towers. These Peer Leaders completed over 300 programs in Fall semester and are off to a blazing start for Spring. Examples of the variety of programs and activities include salsa dancing at Loca Luna, body painting for Tech athletic events, weekly milk and cookies with the women of Harrison Hall, and participating (and winning 1st place in the Independent division) in the Mini 500.

"I would not trade this group of guys for anyone. They take pride in building a community, making a difference, and hands down they are just fun," states Caldwell. The PLs feel the same way about him. PL Chris Clarke brags, "Shane is awesome! He works hard for us and the Towers residents, and he likes to have a good time while doing so."
