Freshmen Activities Board Hosts Kids@Kollege

The Freshman Activities Board (FAB) hosted Kids@Kollege on Sunday, March 3. Kids@Kollege was an event open to children from several organizations around Atlanta. The purpose of the event was to encourage science education in a fun way and to provide a philanthropic event for GT students. Experiments displayed by Georgia Tech students included: Diet Coke and Mentos, bottle rockets, a catapult, the pickle light, crushing cans, and tornado in a bottle. FAB member Rob Parrish said, "Some of the experiments malfunctioned, but the kids really enjoyed themselves anyways. It was really rewarding to see them so excited about science." Georgia Tech student athletes were at the event as well, including football, volleyball, track, and the Gold Rush dance team members.

The day started with a cookout for the children and volunteers prepared by FAB members. Then came an afternoon of games, experiments, and fellowship. "I really believe this was a positive experience both for the children that came as well as the Georgia Tech student volunteers," commented FAB member Sarah Wetherington.

As a result of the event's success, the members of FAB have decided to make Kids@Kollege an organization of its own! FAB advisor Christina Hardcastle said, "This program was a great success! I am proud of the freshmen for planning an event that positively impacted both Georgia Tech and the Atlanta community."
