ResNet recommends the following to help protect against virus and/or worm infections:
1. Install and update your Anti-virus software

2. Keep your machine updated using www.windowsupdate.com
3. Refrain from using P2P file sharing software
As a part of any in-depth security plan, certain ports should be restricted due to unpatchable machines or widespread vulnerabilities with common services on specific ports. ResNet provides this listing information to assist those with connection problems to specific off-campus services. Exceptions for specific machines or individuals cannot be made.
Ports currently blocked to and from ResNet:
tcp: 135, 137-139, 445, 2745, 3127, 4899*, 8889*
udp: 69, 135, 137-139, 445, 8998*
*outbound only
Ports currently blocked from off-campus to ResNet:
tcp: 111, 515, 1433, 1434, 1521, 2049, 2745, 4444, 6667, 27347, 31337
udp: 111, 161, 995, 996, 997, 998, 999, 1433, 1434, 1521, 2049, 4444, 27347, 31337
