A. Renewing your IP Address

Go to the "Start" button and select "Run". Then type in "winipcfg" and click "OK." ![]() |

Click on the "Release" button (Not Release All) and the IP Address should change to
0.0.0.0 or the field will be blank. Click "Renew" and the IP address will change to
10.1.X.X when connect properly to the registration network jack in your room. (The IP
Address will change to 128.61.X.X when connected to the regular network. Continue
with Step B.

B. Registering your Computer

Open Internet Explorer from your machine
Conference guests, visiting professors and visiting research students without a GT account should submit a ResNet Special Access Request. Please complete all required information. Missing information will need to be obtained by email before a username and password will be issued. Once approved, the username and password will be emailed or phoned to you. Return to this step once you receive your username and password via email or phoned. Continue following the START instructions. |

You will be asked to run Windows Update during the registration process.
Click "Scan for Updates" and install all items listed as Critical Updates.

You will be asked to confirm your room assignment during the registration process. This information must be correct for you to proceed. If you just completed a room change, you may have to wait up to 2 days for your room change paperwork to be completed.

When you reach this screen, you have completed the registration process.

C. Configuring your Computer to use DHCP
|
Click on the "Start" button, go to "Settings" and select "Control Panel." ![]() |

Choose "Network" from the Control Panel. ![]() |

In the Configuration panel, highlight TCP/IP. If you have more than one TCP/IP entry, make sure you highlight the one associated with your network card (ie. 3COM, Intel, NE2000, etc.) and not the one associated with a Dial-Up Adapter. ![]() |

Select "Properties." Click on "IP Address" and select "Obtain an IP address automatically." ![]() |

Click on "WINS Configuration" and select "Use DHCP for WINS Resolution." ![]() |
|
Click on "Gateway" and remove any gateway entries by selecting them in the lower box and clicking "Remove" for each one. There should be no gateway entries ![]() |

Click on "DNS Configuration" and select "Disable DNS."
Then select "OK" and "OK" again.
