More Interviewing Tips
- Dress is business casual for the interview process.
- GAIN INFORMATION ABOUT THE POSITION. Ask staff members what
the job entails, the positives, the challenges, etc. Before you enter the interview
get a sense of the position and formulate some questions you have about job responsibilities.
- SELF EVALUATION. Why are you interested in this position? What are
your strengths and weaknesses? What prior experiences are relevant to this position? These
are good questions to think about prior to the interview.
- BE YOURSELF. We are looking for a diversity of personalities to
build our team. Let your true self shine through rather than being someone you are not.
- RELAX. Easier said than done. Just remember that almost everyone
interviewing you has been through a similar process and understands and appreciates
the nervousness you may be feeling.
- LEARN THROUGH THIS PROCESS. Interviewing for jobs is something
you may do more than once in your life. The staff interviews are excellent opportunities
to begin to evaluate your interviewing skill and to represent yourself to others.
- THINK CAREFULLY ABOUT YOUR SKILLS AND INTERESTS. While applying for
several jobs within the Department of Housing may seem like a good idea, it would be
a better use of your time to make some judgments and decisions about which job you
are best qualified for and to focus your efforts in that area. Be sure to read the
job descriptions.
