More Interviewing Tips


  1. Dress is business casual for the interview process.

  2. GAIN INFORMATION ABOUT THE POSITION. Ask staff members what the job entails, the positives, the challenges, etc. Before you enter the interview get a sense of the position and formulate some questions you have about job responsibilities.

  3. SELF EVALUATION. Why are you interested in this position? What are your strengths and weaknesses? What prior experiences are relevant to this position? These are good questions to think about prior to the interview.

  4. BE YOURSELF. We are looking for a diversity of personalities to build our team. Let your true self shine through rather than being someone you are not.

  5. RELAX. Easier said than done. Just remember that almost everyone interviewing you has been through a similar process and understands and appreciates the nervousness you may be feeling.

  6. LEARN THROUGH THIS PROCESS. Interviewing for jobs is something you may do more than once in your life. The staff interviews are excellent opportunities to begin to evaluate your interviewing skill and to represent yourself to others.

  7. THINK CAREFULLY ABOUT YOUR SKILLS AND INTERESTS. While applying for several jobs within the Department of Housing may seem like a good idea, it would be a better use of your time to make some judgments and decisions about which job you are best qualified for and to focus your efforts in that area.
