OMED Challenge CAs
Each summer, Georgia Tech houses OMED Challenge program participants. Challenge is a 5-week, intensive learning program, which serves approximately 100 residents. The program also consists of 10-15 live-in counselors. Run by the OMED office; students take core courses that simulate a typical first fall semester, live in residence halls, and prepare socially and academically for the transition to college. The counselors are current Tech students and mentors who provide support and plan events. Thus the CA role for this program is different than the regular year. The program is open to all students, but is designed to help minority and first generation college students adjust to life at Georgia Tech.

  • The CAs for this special program move to their summer staff space on room change day and serve on the duty team.
  • CAs for this program are also expected to attend the Challenge Orientation weekend and assist with move in for West Campus summer programs.
  • Opening and closing meetings and administrative duties are the primary tasks.
  • Duty will begin directly upon move in as the Challenge Program counselors also move into their space on transition day. There are also opportunities to earn "paid duty pay": first, during the transition week between spring to summer, and second, between July 4th and summer to fall transition.
  • Prior to the start of Challenge, student staff may have other administrative duties for 4-5 hours per week. Tasks and hours will be determined in conjunction with your supervisor. Exceptions to office hours can be discussed with co-op students.

Hiring preference may be given based on a combination of demonstrated interest in the program, prior participation in the Challenge Program, or previous work experience with Challenge as either OMED counselors or special programs CAs, however, all staff are eligible to apply.

Compensation:
Full Rent Credit
Stipend of $316.54
